New EU Directive

Directive 2007/38/EC relates to the retrofitting of mirrors to heavy goods vehicles registered in the European Union and requires vehicles over 3.5 tonnes to be retrofitted with proper devices in order to improve the driver’s field of vision and increase vehicle safety.

Vehicles are affected by the New Directive
The new directive applies to all commercial vehicles above 3.5t registered after Jan 1st 2000.
 What are the Requirements
The retrofit applies to:

  • Class IV (Wide Angle Mirror)
  • Class V (Kerb Mirror)
  • Class IV must cover 95% and Class V must cover 85% vision.
  • We wide angle recommend Front / Roof mirror to also be fitted (Though not required)

Timeframe
Retrofitting must be completed by March 31st 2009, this requirement will be strictly monitored by the police and VOSA. Contact us for more details

Digital tachograph driver cards could be failing as a result of being stored in driver's wallets.
DVLA are aware that if cards are stored in wallets, next to credit cards, then the magnetic strip on a credit card can render the digi-cards useless and is becoming a common problem.
The DVLA says: "The Agency is aware of the requirement to keep drivers on the road.

In view of this, contact the DVLA who will replace them free of charge, and as a matter of urgency and VOSA are also aware of the problem and are currently investigating this matter. Contact us for more details
