The government has temporarily suspended the need for a D4 medical when renewing driving entitlements.
D4 medical suspension
With NHS staff rightly focused on the nationwide response to COVID-19, the government is taking action to protect essential supply chains by making temporary provisions for commercial drivers aged 45 and over, to forgo the need for a D4 medical in order to renew their driving entitlement.

These new relaxations, which expand upon those started on 23rd March 2020 will now run till 31st May 2020.

In response to unprecedented pressures on local and national supply chains, the Department for Transport has pursuant to Article 14(2) of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006, introduced a temporary and limited urgent relaxation of the enforcement of EU drivers’ hours rules in England, Scotland and Wales. As of 21st March 2020, and lasting for three months there after; any lorry or trailer requiring an MOT test within this period will automatically be issued an exemption as the Government brings in steps to keep the economy moving.
