At the time of issuing this post, there is currently in the region of 45,000 outstanding HGV driver tests that were put on hold as a result of the Covid-19 lockdown. This has been quoted as one (of a few) leading causes to the UK’s current driver shortage.

Chief Executive David Wells of Logistic UK has been vocal in recent months, calling on the government to take steps to held struggling haulage companies as the shortage is starting to effect all reaches of the supply chain; with big names like Tesco feeling the effects.
